Sliding sports hold provincial championships

Many locals involved at Whistler Slidiing Centre

All three sliding sports held their B.C. Championships at the Whistler Sliding Centre on Sunday (March 4) and with the Sea to Sky corridor quickly becoming a hotbed for bobsleigh, skeleton and luge, there were lots of locals involved in a number of different races.

Jenna Spencer won the youth A girls' luge race while fellow Pemberton resident Nicole Pidperyhora finished second.

In the youth B boys' event, it was Nicky Klimchuk-Brown taking top spot while Adam Shippit and Reid Watts rounded out the other podium spots. Elainah Andrew edged Veronica Ravenna by .054 seconds for the youth B girls' title.

In youth D competition, Mathew Susko was the boys' winner and Allie Hughes-Goyett won the girls' race.

B.C. Luge also staged a parent-child race as part of Sunday's event but no official results were available.

In skeleton, Sean Greenwood won the men's competition while Scott Ballard finished second and Patrick Rooney placed third. Liza Whitehead won the women's skeleton event, followed by Jane Channell and Christine Newman.

Shannon Kane and Eve Lambert-Beaulieu teamed up to win the women's bobsleigh race. In men's action, Francis Chiasson and Nathanial Shell were the winning duo while Tom Dudley and John Harris took silver and Adrian Dubreuil and Shannon Boisvert were third.
