Showing Ironman Canada comes to Whistler for first time

The 31st edition of Ironman Canada took place in Whistler for the first time on Sunday (Aug. 25), with more than 2,500 triathletes testing their endurance on a gruelling course set in the Sea to Sky corridor. Participants were faced with a 3.8-kilometre swim in Alta Lake, a 180-km bike route that toured through the Callaghan and Pemberton valleys, and a 42.2-km run leg that featured two loops on Whistler's Valley Trail. B.C.'s own Trevor Wurtele won the event, completing the course in eight hours, 39 minutes, 33 seconds. Sunday's race saw a huge turnout of spectators, plus thousands more volunteers who provided enthusiastic support and ensured the event ran smoothly. - by Dušan Mihalečko
