RCMP, tribal police investigating brutal weapon attack in Pemberton

16-year-old boy assaulted by another 16-year-old

The Whistler and Pemberton RCMP and STL'ATL'IMX Tribal Police are investigating a brutal attack by one teen on another that occurred on Saturday (Nov. 9) on the 1400 block of Balsam Way.

The police were advised of an attack in progress at approximatley 11:30 a.m. A 16-year-old male had been assaulted by another 16-year-old male with a hammer, baseball bat and knife.

The victim was able to flee the residence, where bystanders were able to provide emergency first aid. The attacker was arrested outside the residence.

It's not clear what happened in the lead-up to the assault or how the two youth knew each other. The suspect has been held in custody since the incident and makes his first court appearance today (Nov. 12) in North Vancouver Provincial Court. Police have recommended charges of attempted murder.

As for the victim, he was taken to the Pemberton Clinic, then immediately transported to a hospital in the Lower Mainland for treatment. He has since been released from the hospital.

The police are thanking the members of the public that intervened int the attack and provided emergency first aid.
