Waldorf students raising money for bigger classrooms

Grade 4 and 5s looking for community support for 25-km bike ride

One Whistler Waldorf class is hoping the community will help support their efforts to raise money to see additional classroom space added to their school.

The Grade 4 and 5 class are going door-to-door during the month of May looking to raise $1,700 to go toward building four new modular classrooms at the school's Spruce Grove site this summer.

The class is currently housed on the second floor of the field house at the school and is looking forward to a bigger and brighter space next year.

They are holding a 25-km bike ride as a fundraiser, which will go toward the $100,000 needed to build the classroom space. The added space is needed for the 80 new students enrolled in the school over 2012-13.

"They are really motivated to raise the money," said teacher Pierre Richer. "The 25-km ride will definitely be a challenge for them."

The bike ride will be held on June 11 on the Valley Trail. Donation boxes will be available at rest stops along the route and donations can also be made online at www.whistlerwaldorf.com/support-us/annual-giving-campaign/, or by contacting the school directly at 604-932-1885.
