The Westin Resort and Spa Whistler has just announced the launch of their new restaurant. Launching in December, the Grill & Vine, developed by Starwood Hotels and Resorts in collaboration with the hotel, will be taking over the scene. Based on a modernized reinterpretation of the classic grill, the casual yet upscale restaurant will be a welcoming place where guests can enjoy a menu of traditional favourites with a local twist, alongside a wide selection of wines by the glass. Created in an open space that is sleek, simple, clean and fresh, the 105-seat Grill & Vine was designed to be sophisticated enough for the discerning visitor, yet approachable and free-spirited enough to become a social hub for everyone. A comfortable lounge area with soft seating will be sure to entice couples while long communal wood table tops will please families and groups. A new all day Grab & Go will be incorporated into the restaurant with Starbucks espresso coffees and a variety of snacks to go. Executive chef Bradley Cumming will oversee the kitchen at Grill & Vine. Born and raised in Vancouver, chef Cumming is fiercely passionate about using fresh and local ingredients. His culinary philosophy replicates a simple approach in his dishes, allowing the natural flavours of food to express themselves. The Grill & Vine's signature items will include a Woodstone hearth oven featuring artisan pizza and breads, a selection of small plates, and "Simply Grilled" farm-to-table local selections.
The restaurant's menu will be complemented by an extensive wine program that includes a wide selection of Canadian and international wines by the glass, carafe, and bottle. An Enomatic Wine Preservation System will be a main focal point of the restaurant with 16 high-end and unique wines by the glass allowing guests to sample a multitude of wines with their food, including a specially prepared wine and cheeseflight menu. From the Argentinean Catena Zapata Malbec to the JoieFarmNoble Blend Riesling from B.C.'s Okanagan Valley, the wine menu will offer something for everyone at a variety of price points.Set to open in time for the winter season, the Grill & Vine restaurant and lounge will be open for breakfast and dinner year round, as well as après ski in the winter season. Choose the next Prior artist
The entries are all in. Since 2001, Prior has been working with some of the Sea to Sky's finest artists to create pieces that represent the Whistler lifestyle and culture. This Monday marked the submission deadline for artwork and the company is very impressed with this year's entries.
"We have been overwhelmed with artwork in the past few weeks and it is already clear to us that the locals will have a very hard time deciding which art to choose as winner. Thank you to all artists who applied, says Emilie de Crombrugghe of Prior.
"We're looking forward to hanging your art at Millennium Place."
The winning piece will soon adorn a Prior line of locally handcrafted skis and boards that will be sold worldwide.
Again this year, Prior is turning to the people of Whistler, Pemberton and Squamish to choose from a shortlist of 15-20 choices selected by a jury of industry professionals. This has been proven to be the best way for them to decide upon a design that best represents our communities, lifestyles and culture in this mountain paradise. To do this they will be hosting an exhibition, in partnership with the Whistler Arts Council that showcases local artists' work and asks the public to cast the final decision. The exhibition will run Sept. 23 to Oct. 25 with a launch party to take place at Millennium Place, Sept.24.
The winning piece will be added to Prior's product line for Winter 2014-15. The winning artist will receive a custom built ski or board with their artwork on it and a soft goods pro pack. For more information on the exhibition or Prior you can visit their website at www.priorsnow.com.
Choose gold for glowing complexion
A glowing new business has opened up on the stroll. Orogold Cosmetics opened their doors early this summer. Associates at the store have been busy demonstrating the product on customers and spreading the word ever since. OROGOLD Cosmetics started its journey five years ago and launched it's flagship store in New York this June.
The company continues to expand at a tremendous rate with store locations being introduced worldwide. Each product they offer incorporates Orogold's namesake in one of two ways: with metallic flecks that are believed to brighten the complexion or as a "nano" liquid that is said to boost circulation and smooth wrinkles. For more information on Orogold, you can call the Whistler store at 604-962-4308 or visit the orogold website at www.orogoldcosmetics.com
