Hockey musical 'Score' to kick off 5 Canadian film festivals this month

TORONTO - "Score: A Hockey Musical" will kick off five film festivals across Canada this month.

The movie will open the Toronto International Film Festival next week, and go on to open events in Halifax, Sudbury, Calgary and Edmonton.

"Score," from Toronto director Michael McGowan, is about a sheltered hockey phenom who achieves instant stardom.

Olivia Newton-John and singer/songwriter Marc Jordan play the boy's over-protective parents, and the film features cameos from singer Nelly Furtado, hockey dad Walter Gretzky and former NHL star Theo Fleury.

After "Score" kicks off the Toronto film festival on Sept. 9, it'll usher in the Atlantic film festival on Sept. 16, then open Sudbury on Sept. 18, Calgary on Sept. 23 and Edmonton on Sept. 24.

It hits theatres across Canada on Oct. 22.
