SILVER SPRING, Md. - Officials say the body of a gunman who was shot to death by police after he took three hostages at Discovery Channel's headquarters has been removed from the building.

Montgomery County police spokeswoman Angela Cruz says the body was taken out Thursday morning. Police have identified the man as James J. Lee and said he had explosive devices strapped to himself.

Lee had said he hated the company's shows such as "Kate Plus 8" because they promote population growth and its environmental programming because it did little to save the planet.

He was arrested after protesting outside the building in 2008.
