MADRID - The Spanish Foreign Ministry says six more dissidents released from Cuban jails will arrive in Madrid following mediation by the Roman Catholic church and the Spanish government.
The first of this group, Prospero Gainza Aguero, a former leader of an anti-Castro resistance group, arrived at Madrid's Barajas international airport Thursday afternoon accompanied by his wife and daughter.
A second, Alfredo R. Dominguez Batista, a member of a Christian liberation movement, was due to arrive Friday accompanied by eight family members.
So far, Spain has taken in 27 Cuban dissidents from 52 jailed by the Caribbean island's communist regime in a crackdown.
All but one — who flew on to Chile — have remained in Spain, and 20 still await prison release.
