Pakistan minister says players shouldn't resign after dismal World Cup

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan sports minister has asked the president of the country's field hockey federation not to accept the resignation of players from the national team that finished last at the World Cup.

All 18 players resigned last week after Pakistan lost 3-2 to Canada to finish 12th in the tournament at New Delhi.

Sports Minister Ijaz Jhakrani said Tuesday it was an emotional decision after Pakistan's worst performance at a World Cup.

Jhakrani said he had told Pakistan Hockey Federation president Qasim Zia that the resignations should not be accepted.
