TORONTO - Canada's newest multimillionaire checked his Lotto Max ticket after hearing in a store the winner was from Oakville, Ont., and found out it was him.
Donald MacDonald, 78, struck it rich to the tune of $10 million in Friday's draw and collected his cheque Tuesday afternoon.
The retired Canadian Pacific treasury department worker said he'd like take a trip to Europe, where he hasn't been for 20 years, donate some money to the Optimist Club and do some home renovations.
MacDonald said he always plays quick picks "and this time the quick picks were the right picks."
Last month, two tickets split a $50-million Lotto Max draw - one in Quebec and the other in British Columbia. Last November, Marie Fontaine of Pine Falls, Man., pocketed a $50-million Lotto Max prize.
The Canadian record is a Lotto 6/49 prize of $54.3 million won in 2005 by 17 people in Camrose, Alberta. Each took home $3.2 million.
