Cdn. filmmaker Atom Egoyan curating video tribute for Luminato arts festival

TORONTO - Acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan is curating a free installation for this year's Luminato arts festival.

Organizers say the Oscar-nominated writer-director will oversee "Solar Breath (Northern Caryatids) - Light Air," in tribute to late Luminato co-founder David Pecaut.

Set to open June 11, the piece combines the work of Canadian visual artists Michael Snow and Mani Mazinani, and is inspired by the letters that Pecaut wrote to Egoyan before his death in December.

Other free art events just added to the Luminato lineup include "Ship O'Fools," featuring a salvaged Chinese junk boat, and the Wish Come True event, featuring giant, inflatable characters in Queen's Park.

Also, Canadian-born fashion designer Mark Fast, who is known for his knitwear, is stitching a sculpture for the festival.

Previously announced events for Luminato, running June 11-20, include a concert tribute to folk great Bruce Cockburn, and the North American debut of Rufus Wainwright's opera, "Prima Donna."
