Most Canadians spring ahead one hour as they switch to Daylight Time this weekend

TORONTO - This is the weekend most Canadians lose an hour of sleep as they switch from Standard Time to Daylight Time.

Before going to bed Saturday night, time pieces should be set ahead one hour.

The major Canadian exception is Saskatchewan, which stays on Standard Time year-round.

Some studies have shown that on the Monday following the spring time change, the number of traffic accidents has risen as much as 17 per cent - with sleep experts blaming the lost hour of shuteye.

Studies also slow no major reduction in traffic accidents in the fall when clocks are set back one hour, giving drivers a little extra nap time.

This year, Daylight Time ends on Nov. 7.
