I would like to thank the delegation from the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District for the meeting at this year’s Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) convention in Vancouver. I am writing to follow-up on our discussion with Mr. Jordan Sturdy, MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, regarding the Mt. Meager and Upper Lillooet River Flood Early Warning System.
It is recognized that monitoring the water levels in the Lillooet River, such as sudden drops in level and flow, may provide the Pemberton Valley with more advanced notice of a landslide event.
The Province will continue to work with you to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive response to your concerns. I have asked Mr. John Oakley, Senior Regional Manager of the South West Region with Emergency Management BC, to connect with his colleagues at the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, on this issue and follow-up with you directly.
I appreciate opportunities to hear the views of local governments and share information. Thank you again for a very informative meeting.
