(Letter to Council)
We are writing to draw your attention to the continued existence of the unsightly premises, locally referred to as the infamous "chicken coops,” located in Creekside on Karen Crescent adjacent to the Husky Station.
The present ugly, vandalized and derelict sight of these buildings, plastered with graffiti, has been the state for close to a year now, pending demolition and replacement by a new development that has received the Municipality's approval.
We are now advised by the tenant living in the only portion of the building that is still habitable that the owners do not intend to proceed until next spring. In the meantime the entire neighbourhood continues to suffer the visual annoyance and constant embarrassment of this blight on the landscape.
Our enquiries at the Municipal Building Department as to what can be done about this received no encouragement, due to the lack of an effective by-law to deal with such a situation. Hence, we are now appealing to Council to deal with the matter, hopefully before another winter season.
Your constructive (and hopefully, destructive) assistance would be greatly appreciated.
