The Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre has just made a donation of $10,964.89 to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. In the Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre there is a suite named the Canuck Place Suite and each year 10 per cent of all room revenue generated from guest stays in this suite is donated to Canuck Place.
In the last three years over $25,000 has been given to the children’s hospice from the Pan Pacific Whistler hoteliers. The money will be very helpful to B.C.’s highly acclaimed pediatric palliative care provider for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
The team from Pan Pacific Whistler hotels recently toured Canuck Place to see the facilities — the peaceful outdoor gardens, kitchen and recreation rooms, the second floor clinical wing with nine patient beds and the third floor family rooms. The team also viewed the art room, schoolroom and playroom and had the opportunity to meet counsellors, physicians and nurses.
“I hope those are tears of joy’” asked Denise Praill, facility manager for development, during the tour. “Here at Canuck Place we try to find the joy in life, hopefully helping to manage the sorrow and sadness that comes when a child is ill.” It is a touching sentiment echoed through the halls of the charming facility.
Denise and her team have a daunting task ahead of them in the coming months. Canuck Place will complete construction on the $13-million capital project and the province’s second pediatric palliative care facility in Abbotsford later this fall. Pan Pacific Whistler general manager Lloyd Daser says, “Making sure we have heads in these hotel beds is my role here at Pan Pacific Whistler and I embrace that challenge every day. But the tiny heads resting in the beds at Canuck Place need our support too. I am grateful to, and proud of, all members of our Pan Pacific Whistler family who whole-heartedly support our initiative here. We are honoured to be contributing to our community, especially the children of B.C., with this donation program.”
“Pan Pacific Whistler is an incredible supporter to Canuck Place and we applaud their involvement in our fundraising through the Whistler hotel,” said Praill.
Although former Vancouver Canucks captain Trevor Linden has not had an active role at Canuck Place for years, he joined in the celebrations when he heard about the Pan Pacific Whistler donation. Linden was a key player, on and off the ice, in founding Canuck Place.
