Olympic champ Maëlle Ricker stepped back on the World Cup podium on Saturday (March 9) as she finished third in the women’s snowboard cross race held at Arosa, Switzerland.
Ricker shared the podium with Canadian teammate Dominique Maltais, who claimed the victory. Italy’s Michela Moioli took the silver.
The result was a nice bounce-back effort for Ricker, who struggled to a 17th-place finish in her last outing at the Olympic test event World Cup in Sochi.
“I definitely was looking to get back in the big final after my result from Sochi,” the Sea to Sky rider said in a release. “It’s good to come back and do well again. I still need to clean some things up and hopefully get in the big finals again for the next two events.”
Ricker, who won a world championship title earlier this year, credited the work of the Canadian team staff for helping her to the podium on Saturday.
“We definitely had really fast boards, so a big thanks goes out to our support staff for helping us out,” she said.
Ricker sits fourth in the World Cup standings with races in Switzerland and Spain yet to come.
