Whistler’s Centre for Sustainability will help two local businesses or non-profit organizations implement an idea to make their businesses more environmentally friendly.
The project needs to have an effect on one or more of the following criteria: energy and emission reduction, responsible purchasing, waste management, chemical use or green products and services.
Sustainability planner Shannon Gordon says they’re keeping it very simple. All that is required is an email that explains the project and how the centre can help. The two chosen projects will then get five days each with the centre’s staff.
“It’s about rolling up our sleeves and seeing what business need and how we can best help,” said Gordon.
The centre understands the time and financial constraints businesses have and can lend a hand with research, transition, or even the execution, Gordon added.
Whistler already has businesses that have successfully decreased their footprint, but Gordon says they want to show other businesses that sustainability can be practical and either save or make them money. The goal is also to inspire other businesses.
This is the only time business and non-profits will be able to get the centre’s help with their projects, but if the model is successful the centre would like to see it continue.
