On the heels of announcing an $18 million lift expansion, Whistler Blackcomb is challenging the community to be part of the project by naming the new lift that will replace the Crystal Chair next year.
The new high-speed quad will be located next to where the current Crystal Chair operates and officials at the ski hill are giving people two weeks to submit name suggestions for a chance to win a 2013-14 winter season pass or a $1,000 gift card at Whistler Blackcomb.
“We are very excited to announce the installation of two new lifts at Whistler Blackcomb and this competition is the perfect way to engage the public and help us name the new Crystal Zone quad,” said Stuart Rempel, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales at Whistler Blackcomb in a press release. “The Crystal Zone is extremely popular for all types of skiers and riders, and we can’t wait to see the name suggestions our guests and employees put forward.”
The new high-speed quad chairlift in the Crystal Zone will be 1,708 metres (5,604ft) in length, with a vertical rise of 535 metres (1,755ft). The top of the new high-speed Crystal Zone quad will have the same location as the current fixed-grip, triple chair next to the Crystal Hut. However, the aspect of the new lift line is dramatically different, and will originate along the Blackcomb Glacier Road.
The competition is open anyone over the age of 13 years old and contestants can enter as many names as they like. The winning submission will be announced on Feb. 26 and if there are duplicate submissions of the chosen name, a random draw will be held among those submissions to decide the winner. Submissions can be made at www.whistlerblackcomb.com/younameit and the competition begins today (Jan. 30) and closes on Feb. 15. No purchase is necessary.
