Whistler RCMP is recommending drug trafficking charges against five people after a year-long investigation culminated with a search warrant of a residence last week.
“This investigation started a little over a year ago after an off duty officer was offered drugs in the Village after the bars closed,” said Cpl. Jeff Shore with the RCMP’s plain clothes General Investigation Section. “As a result of the investigation on Jan. 12 a search warrant was executed in the Village area of Whistler to search for evidence related to cocaine trafficking.”
Shore said cocaine, cash and additional drug paraphernalia were seized at the residence on Northlands Boulevard. A 36-year-old Mount Currie Male, three Whistler males aged 34, 28 and 22 years old and a 25-year-old Whistler female were arrested with RCMP recommending charges of trafficking cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Shore said the alleged local dealers were trafficking in cocaine in amounts varying from grams all the way up to ounces in size.
“It is fairly significant for people to be selling ounces of cocaine,” he said.
Sgt. Rob Knapton added that the year-long investigation was also significant in terms of the manpower needed.
“Any investigation that takes a year from start to finish is obviously an outlay of resources, so I would call that a fairly significant investigation for our detachment,” Knapton said.
