Whistler RCMP are investigating the sudden death of a 43-year-old Oklahoma man who was skiing on Whistler Mountain Monday (Jan. 7).
RCMP were contacted after a skier on Franz's Meadows was passing a cliff and noticed a male rider who appeared to be in need of assistance. When the skier did not respond to the passerby, he contacted Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol to attend. RCMP officers also attended the scene.
“Attempts were made to treat the male by ski patrol and physicians at the scene, however they were unable to revive the male,” said RCMP Sgt. Rob Knapton in a press release. “From the male's injuries and the location of the body, it appears that the male fell from the cliff area above Franz's Meadows,” said Knapton.
Whistler RCMP and the BC Coroner's office will continue to investigate the incident to determine exactly what occurred.
The man's name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
