    Some die hard skiers and snowboarders were already lining up Friday morning (Nov. 16) to be the first to get up Whistler Blackcomb when it officially opens on Saturday (Nov. 17).

    On Tuesday (Nov. 13) WB made the announcement it would open a week early, citing "impressive snowmaking and natural snowfall" as factors allowing Whistler to open five days ahead of the official opening day set for Nov. 22.

    "In addition to new snow and a great forecast lining up towards the end of this week, our fleet of 220 state-of-the-art snow guns has converted over 70 million gallons of water into snow over the past few weeks," Doug MacFarlane, mountain manager for WB, said in the release. "This ensures excellent on-piste coverage for quality skiing and riding on opening day.

    WB has also announced a "surprise musical act" for those waiting in line for the Village Gondola on Saturday, while the first 1,500 guests to upload received a gift.
