Happy reading

Dear Editor,

The Friends of the Library are happy to report the successful outcome of the Giant Used Book Sale held over the Thanksgiving Weekend.

Visitors and locals took books away by the armload and generously donated a total of $4,340. The proceeds will be split between the school libraries at Myrtle Philip, Springcreek, and Whistler Secondary as well as Whistler Public Library. Funds can expand the collection, provide special programs, or go towards other library needs.

The book sale could not happen without support from the community and huge thanks go out to IGA Marketplace first of all for allowing the sale to take place in front of the store.  We are also grateful to TD Canada Trust and Nesters Market for being collection depots, and the Whistler Question and Whistler Village hosts for helping to get the word out.

Many volunteers help sort, transport, set-up, take down and man the sale. Thanks go to the main team: Moe Richmond, Maureen Chaddock, Jessie Pendygrasse and Susuan Annand. Other key players include: Len Van Leeuwen, Bill Janyk, John Richmond, Rick Reid, Gordon Annand, Jaqui Tyler, Ophra Buckman, Lil Goldsmid, Maddie Reid, Gail Rybar, Kris Shoup, Alison Hunter, Heather Matthews, and Simone Crichton, and all those who so generously donated books to the sale. Thank you to everyone.

Until next time, happy reading!

Jane Reid
