While residents of Squamish no longer have a movie theatre operating in their community Whistler residents and visitors can expect the facility here to remain unchanged.
Garibaldi 5 Cinema in Squamish closed its doors last Thursday (Aug. 9) after eight years in operation.
The theatre is run by U.S.-based Metropolitan Theatres Corp., which also operates the Village 8 in Whistler.
Metropolitan president David Corwin told The Question this week there should be no impact in Whistler as a result of the theatre in Squamish shutting its doors.
“There should not be any implications,” Corwin said. “The theatre in Squamish wasn’t performing as it needed to and it was closed.
“We can now focus 100 per cent of our attention in Whistler.”
The Squamish Chief reported the Garibaldi 5 has been in financial trouble for several years owing more than a million to Churchill Property Corp., the company that manages the Garibaldi Village Shopping Centre.
