A Chilliwack man is under arrest for allegedly stealing a high end mountain bike through fraud.
Whistler RCMP received the theft complaint on July 11 that two bikes valued at $6,000 each were rented and not returned.
Two individuals used credit cards to rent two downhill mountain bikes, then did not return them,
said Sgt. Rob Knapton adding that the credit cards were suspected to be fraudulent. While investigating this theft it came to our attention that one of the bikes was listed for sale online.
Today (Aug. 2) officers from the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment RCMP Crime Reduction Unit were able to arrest the suspect and recover one of the stolen bikes.
The suspect was later released to appear in court and RCMP will be forwarding charges.
Theft of bikes is a significant issue in Whistler,
said KNAPTON noting that Whistler draws large crowds of mountain bikers on a daily basis. We receive numerous complaints of stolen bikes on a weekly basis.
"It’s great to recover some of them and end up with charges against people involved.
