Sunshine Coast RCMP continues to investigate a four-vehicle collision that forced traffic to be re-routed on Highway 101 for several hours Wednesday afternoon.

Just after 1 p.m. on July 11, RCMP, paramedics and members of the Roberts Creek fire department attended the accident on Highway 101 near Largo Road.

According to Cpl. Steve Chubey, the collision occurred when a northbound grey sedan crossed the centre line and struck the side of a truck travelling south, causing the truck to skid sideways into the northbound lane, where it was struck by an on-coming sport utility vehicle.

“The impact sent the sport utility vehicle onto the right shoulder causing it to flip onto its roof,” said Chubey. “The truck continued to slide sideways into the oncoming lane and was T-boned by a fourth vehicle. All vehicles sustained heavy damage, however injuries were surprisingly minor due to the deployment of airbags and use of seatbelts by all involved.”

Chubey said witnesses at the scene indicated that the female driver of the grey sedan crossed into oncoming traffic which initiated the chain of events.

RCMP is continuing their investigation and Motor Vehicle Act charges are pending.
