A new dining choice has been added to the roster at Whistler’s Marketplace. The Deseo Bistro has opened in the space formerly occupied by the Beet Root Café.
Owners Ramiro Madrid and Isabelle Demers moved to Whistler in August and spent some time working at the Beet Root before taking over ownership. The pair opened the doors as Deseo Bistro for the first time last weekend, and the new Mexican eatery has already been well received by guests.
Many customers have been back multiple times already for the salmon xtabentun, and the enchiladas are also a popular choice. The food served is authentic fare enjoyed by the Maya and Azteca cultures. The menu consists of some essential authentic Mexican choices, along with some traditional breakfast options. For beverages they serve everything from espresso-based beverages to mojitos.
The new owners relocated from Montreal where they owned a restaurant called Bernie’s for the last seven years. Ramiro was the executive chef of the restaurant and Isabelle worked on the front line.
The interior of Deseo Bistro has received an attractive re-design, featuring new seating and Mexican artwork.
Deseo is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Sunday to Tuesday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday. For more information, visit them at 129 - 4340 Lorimer Road or call 604-962-4450.

The new prints are in. Professional snowboard-cross and slope style athlete Sara Niblock created Nibz Bandanaz in 2006 and has been changing up the prints every season. The Whistler resident’s styles can now be found across Canada.
The product is popular among men, women and children. The difference between Nibz and other masks and bandanas is that they can be worn just over the neck or over the mouth and under goggles to protect from the elements. Each bandana has three layers, including a 100 per cent polyester jersey mesh base, a middle polyester fleece and a windproof and water resistant nylon blend outer layer.
The Nibz wick away sweat and moisture to keep riders warm. Recently the company has launched 20 new prints for the 2011-‘12 season. Nibz Bandanaz are made in Vancouver and available at Evolution in Whistler and the Mill in Pemberton. For more information you can visit the website at www.nibz.ca.
