Spring has sprung and new businesses are growing everywhere. Whistler local Sylvain “Slinky” Girard has just announced his new business venture. A Buyer's Choice Home Inspections franchise has now been launched in the Sea to Sky corridor.
Girard also services West Vancouver and the lower Sunshine Coast of B.C. Originally from Montreal, Sylvain has been a Whistler resident since 1992. "Slinky," as he's better known, first worked in the hospitality industry, cooking, bartending and managing before pursuing a career in the construction industry.
Over the past 10 years, Sylvain has gained enough experience to become a self-employed contractor. He has worked in numerous sectors from building foundations to framing and high quality finishing, including residential and commercial renovations.
Sylvain is a nationally certified home inspector and remains an associate member in good standing with the Canadian National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (CanNACHI). He received his certification after extensive study from the Carson Dunlop Training Institute; the most comprehensive home inspector training system in North America. He is currently licensed under the British Columbia Business Practices and Consumer Protection Branch.
Sylvain's goal is to operate the most successful home inspection business in the Sea to Sky corridor and the Sunshine Coast. Becoming part of A Buyer's Choice team seemed like a natural fit. Having the background and knowledge in the construction industry will allow him to assist realtors, comfort the client and protect their investment.

A new store opened its doors recently especially for local runners. Run With It had its grand opening at Nesters square last Saturday.
The business, owned by local Wanda Chalk, opened with the help of Mike Conway at Back in Action Physiotherapy who came in to provide biochemical gait assessments to store visitors. He was there to help customers choose the right shoe from Whistler's new running store.
Run With It Accessories and Apparel is Whistler’s only specialty running store aiming to provide area runners with enough stuff to get going, get better, and keep running. The store carries running shoes, running apparel, fuel belts, fuel, watches, sunglasses, socks, and for when you have overdone it — therapeutic supplies.
A serious recreational runner herself, Wanda began running in 2006 when she completed her first half marathon in Victoria. She has since completed another half in Las Vegas and another try at Victoria in 2010. This year she plans to complete the Scotiabank Vancouver half marathon and the Diva on the Run half marathon.
Wanda along with her fellow runners and gear fitters Hayley, Sarah and Brooke are enjoying working in a store that follows their passion for running.
