Whistler's Julia Murray won World Championship ski cross silver on Friday (Feb. 4) as part of a one-two Canadian finish at Deer Valley Resort, Utah.
Kelowna's Kelsey Serwa took top spot in the event, following the X Games gold she won last week. Murray was second behind Serwa early on and held on to the position.
There was a nervous moment for Murray near the bottom of the course in the final, as she clipped skis with Austria's Katrin Ofner but managed to stay upright. Sweden's Anna Holmlund won bronze.
Marielle Thompson, also a Whistler resident, skied a quarter-final heat with Serwa but finished third to be eliminated, and ranked 15th overall. Danielle Poleschuk was 13th to round out the Canadian women's results.
A number of crashes left several of the favourites out of medal contention. French star Ophelie David and Swiss skier Fanny Smith were unable to complete their quarter-final runs, while Germany's Heidi Zacher didn't finish her semfinal heat.
Whistler resident Davey Barr placed third in the men's small final to finish seventh overall. Canada's Chris Del Bosco charged out of second place in the final to claim the men's World Championship.
Other Canadian results were an eighth-place finish for Nick Zoricic and a 19th-place showing by Dave Duncan.
