Garden Bay native Kyle Bruce is on the move again.

The Braehead Clan, based in Glasgow, Scotland, of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), signed the 27-year-old right-winger to a contract last week.

Bruce is no stranger to the EIHL as he played with Manchester Phoenix in the 2008/09 season.

He played with the Wichita Thunder in the Central Hockey League last season and in the 2007/08 season. He also won a championship with the Idaho Steelheads in the East Coast Hockey League in the 2006/07 season.

“Kyle Bruce represents the kind of team I am trying to put together and the game will be passionate, gritty, professional and in-your-face hockey,” said player/coach Bruce Richardson in a news release. “A couple of years ago I played with Kyle and I always told him that if I became a coach, he would be the type of player I would be looking to sign, so I signed him. Kyle is a player who gives his all at practice and on game night. He hits like a train and can fight when needed. He can also bring some offensive play to the game.

“Kyle is very excited about coming to play for me and the Clan and coming back to the league. I think he will become a fan favourite in Braehead.”

The EIHL is a professional ice hockey league in the United Kingdom. Formed in 2003 following the demise of the Ice Hockey Super League, it is the highest level of ice hockey competition in the United Kingdom. Unlike its North American counterparts, the Elite League is not divided into conferences; teams compete in a single division. The league currently consists of 10 teams, with representation from all four Home Nations. In seven completed seasons, three different teams have won the league.

The Coventry Blaze were crowned the 2009/10 champions on March 20, 2010, succeeding the Sheffield Steelers. The Belfast Giants won the end of season playoff championship.
