Campfire ban lifted

This week’s cool, wet weather has prompted officials to lift the campfire ban that had been in effect in the Sea to Sky region since late July.

Officials with the B.C. Ministry of Forests’ Coastal Fire Centre lifted the fire ban effective on Wednesday (Sept. 1) at noon. Campfires, tiki torches and fireworks are permitted, while other types of open fires, including burning barrels, remain prohibited, officials said.

The fire hazard rating in Whistler dropped to moderate on Tuesday (Aug. 31), prompting Whistler Fire Rescue Service officials to lift their ban on campfires and wood- and charcoal-fired barbecues, provided they are burned and extinguished in a safe manner.
