Story:
On Tuesday Aug. 17 at 8:35 p.m., police received a call of a disturbance at the 40000 block of Tantalus Road where officers located a large group of people involved in an altercation. Two male youth aged 16 and 17 were arrested and a 44-year-old male sustained injuries to his face as a result of the altercation. The two youth were later released to custody of their parents and are to appear in Provincial Court on Oct. 4 to face charges of assault with a weapon. The matter is still under investigation and a third male is being sought.
Thief arrested
On Thursday Aug. 19 at 1:38 a.m. police attended to an alarm at the Style Zone clothing store in the Chieftain Centre. A window was smashed and the property rep said a purse valued at $150 had been stolen. A member on patrol located two people well known to police in the area of Victoria and Second Avenue. The 17-year-old girl was carrying the purse stolen minutes earlier. She was arrested and held before being released to guardians. The youth will appear in Provincial Court to face a charge of possession of stolen property.
Teens violate liquor laws
On Friday (Aug. 20) at 1:34 a.m., RCMP was advised a group of youths was being noisy and drinking in McNaughton Park. Police located a group of youth sitting on a table with liquor present. An 18-year-old male who chose to continue drinking his beer in front of the police was issued with a violation ticket for consuming liquor in public, which carries a penalty of $230. The rest of the liquor was poured out and the youth were escorted out of the park.
Thieves enter through sliding door
On Wednesday Aug. 18, property owners reported their residence in Brunswick Beach was broken into by breaching the sliding glass door on a balcony. A 42-inch Vizio television, 20-inch computer monitor with iPod mount, Playstation 3 and controllers and a Dolce & Gabanna watch were stolen.
Dangerous driver crashes, flees
On Wednesday Aug. 18 at 10:25 p.m., civilians reported a vehicle driving erratically and speeding on Highway 99.
A member on patrol intercepted the vehicle near Highway 99 and Finch Drive as it drove through a red light then sped off at 120 km/hour in a 50-km/hour zone. The vehicle went through a stop sign and then went off road into a ditch.
The driver fled on foot and was located hiding in bushes nearby. The 52-year-old male was returned to the office and breathalyzer readings were obtained showing he was over the limit of .08 per cent blood alcohol.
The male was later released on a promise to appear to attend Provincial Court on Sept. 29 to face charges of dangerous driving and impaired driving.
Tourist vehicles targeted
On Wednesday Aug. 18, tourists report their rental vehicle broken into at Shannon Falls Provincial Park. The driver’s door lock was damaged to gain entry and a black leather watch, GPS, necklace and money were stolen.
On Friday (Aug. 20), tourists report their rental vehicle broken into at Shannon Falls Provincial Park. Two black backpacks were stolen which contained clothing, two GPS units, two Nintendo DS and $800 in cash.
