The fire hazard rating in Whistler fell from extreme to high on Sunday (Aug. 22) and remained there for a third consecutive day on Tuesday (Aug. 24). Beginning Wednesday (Aug. 25), construction activity in the wildland-urban interface zone (within 10 metres of the forest) was allowed to resume, but only until 1 p.m. each day. Construction in those areas will only be allowed to return to a regular schedule when the rating falls to moderate for two straight days, municipal officials said.
The open fire ban imposed in late July because of the extreme fire hazard remained in effect as of Wednesday.
