They came, they rode, they ate ice cream sandwiches and salads, ran and rode through sprinklers, and hung out with neighbours and friends. Although I don’t have an exact figure, Pemberton’s Slow Food Cycle last Sunday (Aug. 15) was clearly a success no matter what the official count is. With cyclists showing up in droves at the registration tables in town on Sunday morning, the event was a picture of eager participation by cyclists from throughout the Sea to Sky corridor, with some from much further afield. They rode on mountain bikes, road bikes and cruisers. The occasional vintage two-wheeled beauty was even spotted. Congratulations to everyone involved on a successful event.

An email from a local dog lover urges dog owners to be kind to their pets in our intense summer heat. The writer says she’s seen people on bikes running their dogs on leashes alongside — a practice that can bring on heat stroke in dogs. And of course, leaving dogs in hot cars poses a huge risk.
