Dear Editor,
(Re: “Bowhunting bylaw sought,” Question, July 29)
The task you described is as difficult as it is worthwhile. Archery is an ancient activity, once used for survival and war, and to that end it took its place in history. However, it's being resurrected amidst today's technology and is being touted as just one more way to kill and
maim. Unfortunately, it's all too often in novice hands. Inhumane as it often is, the money and fun that it generates is all that matters it would seem... its animal victims be damned. After all, if one can't feel it, then it doesn't hurt and besides who cares anyway. Those that do are soon cast aside and belittled, while the beat goes relentlessly on. Does nobody wonder about these poor hapless creatures, the majority of which escape instant death, only to die a slow, lingering death elsewhere? Does nobody wonder about an arrow that misses its mark and strikes a belly instead? Does nobody wonder, much less care, about the needless suffering that is inflicted on another of nature's innocent creatures? Shoot if you must, but does your target have to bleed? I think not...
