The return of Slow Food Cycle Sunday, the popular agritourism event that connects bike-borne visitors with Pemberton Meadows farms, will be marked by bustling Bavarian-style celebrations at the end of the ride.
The Rotary Club of Pemberton Centennial and the Friends of the Pemberton Library are teaming up with the local Lions Club to welcome Slow Food Cycle riders at a new Augustfest event at the end of their two-wheeled journeying.
Augustfest is set to run on Sunday, Aug. 15, from 3 to 7 p.m., after the cycle trip, serving up a bounty of Bavarian-inspired refreshments in a beer garden in Pioneer Park.
After sampling the luscious Pemberton products at participating farms, tired riders can slake their thirst and hunger with cool beer, barbecue favourites and giant pretzels. And for the kids who, miraculously, might not be tired after the ride, there will be free access to a bouncy castle.
Beer garden proceeds will benefit the community kitchen that’s being equipped in the Cottonwood Community Centre.
Along with a roster of events that have sprung up around the popular Slow Food Cycle, which drew 2,300 riders in 2008, the Pemberton and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting an open-air fundraising dinner created by top chefs on Aug. 14.
