The Whistler Arts Council (WAC)’s seventh annual ArtWalk event has a call out for local artists and artisans.
The event features artists’ work highlighted in unconventional “galleries” throughout the Village, including cafés, retail stores, hotels and restaurants from June 15 to Aug. 31.
Artists who want their work displayed must live between Lions Bay and Lillooet, and work in visual art, photography, fibre arts, pottery, multi-media, jewellery, leather or sculpture.
When applying, artists must provide three to six images of their work, and all images should be of work the artist intends to display at ArtWalk. Artists must also include a photo of one new piece of artwork not previously displayed.
But you’d better hurry. The deadline for application is April 19.
Applications and complete guidelines can be found at whistlerartscouncil.com.
ArtWalk features two opening receptions, with the first on June 25 and the second on Aug. 6.

“GALLERIES” ALSO NEEDED: In addition to new artists for the annual ArtWalk, WAC, TD Canada Trust and Whistler Real Estate Co. are also putting out a call for local businesses to become host “galleries.”
The unconventional galleries can include cafés and restaurants, stores, hotels, information centres, commercial galleries and artist studios.
Advantages of hosting a gallery at your business include increased visitor traffic for the two months of the exhibit, plus a venue listing in the ArtWalk brochures that are distributed along the Sea to Sky corridor.
Participating venues are also encouraged to host an opening reception on either June 25 Aug. 6, depending on the business location. The gallery application deadline is April 19 at 4 p.m. Go to whistlerartscouncil.com for more information or to apply.

SLCC ADMISSION BY DONATION: If you’ve not treated yourself to a day at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC), then may I suggest any Monday this spring and summer as that day?
The SLCC is making every Monday an “admission by donation” day for locals and B.C. residents, so you can pay what you want to see fascinating First Nations exhibits, artwork and artifacts. The tours are great, so take advantage of admission by donation Mondays at the SLCC.
