On the fabulously sunny days that we have had occasion to enjoy here in the Pemberton Valley recently, signs of spring are everywhere.
A short run in and about the village last Saturday afternoon, when the temperature was relatively balmy and the sun was out in full, revealed a veritable catalogue of what we like to do here in Pemberton: Moms and dads with their babies in strollers walked through town while a group of folks on horseback meandered down Urdal; a motorbike pulled out of The Glen on what may have been the first ride of the year; I spotted the first road bike I’ve seen out and about since last spring; across the way, my neighbour washed his car, freeing it from months of salt and grime. Of course, the mountain bikers were out, enjoying the only-in-Pemberton kind of adventure you can have on such a day.
Sunday, although colder and overcast, meant a much longer run up Happy Trail and beyond that revealed that local trails are in the kind of condition I dream about over the winter — snow-free, soft and kind to a runner’s body, with views of the Pemberton Valley to die for. Now that the post-Olympic blues have come and gone (at least I hope they have), springtime in Pemberton is on the way with the kind of local events we’ve become used to. Read on for springtime events, Pemberton style.
