Whistler’s Late and Unique Nighttime Alternatives (LUNA) is inviting Whistlerites to get in touch with their inner nomads next week.
Night of the Nomads, scheduled next Friday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s Frontenac Ballroom, is a chance to get immersed in the world of travel through the viewing of a travel film, an exchange of information with travel professionals and a chance to win valuable prizes.
Tour companies Intrepid, Busabout, Moose Travel Network and Hostelling International’s will be part of a tour and gear silent auction, while professionals from Northlands Medical Clinic will offer travel medical advice. Attendees will have a chance to demonstrate their travel savvy in one of a number of several interactive games. The evening wraps up with one of Whistler’s own nomads, Lena Rowat, providing a screening of Legs to Logan: A Wilderness Journey on Skis from Vancouver to the Top of Canada, a short film documenting her epic 2,700-kilometre ski expedition.
Those planning to attend should bring cash or a credit card for the auction items, as payment will be accepted at the end of the evening. Details of the tours and gear to be auctioned can be viewed at www.lunawhistler.com/nomad.html
Entry to the event costs $7, or $5 with LUNA membership cards, and includes hors d’oeuvres and chances to win take-home travel prizes. The first 40 people to buy tickets from Whistler’s Foto Source will be entered into a draw for a Lonely Planet book. Tickets will also be available at the door.
