Sailland named new Pemberton CAO

Current senior administrator for Mount Currie says he’s leaving ‘on a high note’

The Village of Pemberton announced this week that Daniel Sailland, current senior administrator of the Mount Currie Band, has been hired as the Village’s new chief administrative officer (CAO). Sailland is scheduled to take over the role on April 1.

“As difficult as it is to leave Mount Currie, it’s nice to leave my role on such a high note. We have accomplished some terrific things together and there are great opportunities underway,” Sailland said in a press release issued by the Village on Monday (Feb. 15).

“Mount Currie has an outstanding management team in place and I hope to maintain my relationship with them as I expand my professional horizons here at home in the valley.”

Sailland has served as senior administrator for Mount Currie since 2006. According to the press release, he hopes his experience in First Nations governance and his friendships with the band will further strengthen and evolve the working relationship between the two communities.

“Council and staff are excited to have filled the chief administrative officer position with someone who brings such strong skills to the job and already has such deep roots in the valley,” said Mayor Jordan Sturdy. “We look forward to welcoming Daniel on board.”

Originally from Quebec, Sailland has filled various senior management roles around the world over the past 14 years. He served as director of sports, culture and recreation in Quebec City, manager of health and recreation services at the District of Saanich, and worked as solutions bid manager with Capita Group in London, UK before moving to the Pemberton Valley.

“I’m hoping that I can offer as much of my background and expertise to the Village as I expect to learn from the new role,” Sailland said.

The CAO position was available after Lori Pilon resigned from the position in November. She cited a desire to ease off work and commuting commitments to spend more time with family and focus on completing a master’s degree.

Former Nanaimo city manager Jerry Berry has been serving as interim CAO since December. Pemberton council and staff thanked Berry for his services over the last three months and wished him a fulfilling retirement.
