Pemberton gets day in the Olympic spotlight

Peter Mansbridge keynote speaker at Sea to Sky Expo Tuesday

Pemberton’s day in the Olympic spotlight is coming up next Tuesday (Feb. 23) as the Sea to Sky Expo takes over Whistler Canada Olympic House.

Post-Olympic economic development opportunities is the theme for the event, which brings together the provincial government, the Village of Pemberton and the District of Squamish with high-profile industry experts.

The Province is footing the bill for the venue, food and beverages while the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC) is providing free transportation for attendees traveling from Pemberton, Squamish or Vancouver for the day.

Pemberton mayor Jordan Sturdy and Squamish mayor Greg Gardner are scheduled to address attendees during lunch around 1 p.m., followed by socializing and free time along with a tour of Whistler.

The guest list includes hundreds of influential people with decision-making power in the development, education and technology, recreation and tourism, marine, agriculture and transportation industries as well as local business leaders.

The keynote speaker at the dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. will be veteran CBC broadcast journalist Peter Mansbridge. After dinner, attendees will have several hours to mingle around the venue and sample Pemberton’s own organic Schramm Vodka.
