Switzerland's Dario Cologna celebrates after winning the gold medal in the men's 15-kilometre free cross-country skiing event at Whistler Olympic Park on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.

The Swiss now hold more gold medals than any other country as Dario Cologna charged his way to top ranking Olympian with his 15km freestyle win in the Callaghan Valley today.

The win follows on the heels of today's men's downhill skiing by Didier Defago's, giving the Swiss three golds.

"With this victory, my childhood dream came true," said Cologna.

Cologna devastating his rivals, top two World Cup leaders Petter Northug Jr. of Norway and Lukas Bauer of the Czech Republic, with a time of 33 minutes 36.3 seconds.

Cologna jumped up and down on the podium during the flower ceremony as crowds cheered.

"I had a very good feeling from the start, I didn't believe I could win the 15km, but I pushed until the end," he said.

Pietro Piller Cottrer of Italy took the silver with a time of 34 minutes 0.9 seconds and Bauer took bronze 34 minutes 12 seconds.

Canada's Ivan Babikov, who was ranked 20th, finished in the eighth position with a time of 34 minutes 3 seconds. His countryman Alex Harvey, ranked 11th, finished 21st.

Canadian Grey George was ranked 42nd and finished 29th. And Canadian cross-country skier Gordon Jewett, who was ranked 64th and expressed hope that home advantage would count in his favour, finished 52nd.
