Sgt. Leo honoured

Officer lauded for 22 years of service

A respected member of the Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police was honoured for more than 20 years of service during a ceremony new Ullus Community Complex in Mount Currie on the weekend.

Sgt. Mike Leo, who is in his 22nd year of servie as a peacekeeper and law enforcement officer, was honoured by Lil’wat Nation Chief Leonard Andrew and others in a ceremony that included speeches, dancing and drumming on Saturday (Feb. 6).

Leo started working as a peacekeeper for the Stl’atl’imx Nation Communities in 1988 and has served with the Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police Service (STPS) since it became a designated police service in 1999.

“For over 20 years Sgt. Leo has been an integral part of the 10 Stl’atl’imx Nations served by the STPS and was recognized by the Lil’wat Community and the Mount Currie Band Chief and Council for the work he has done over the past two decades,” STPS officials said in a statement.
