AFOW grants $9,000 to WCSS

The American Friends of Whistler (AFOW) last week presented Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) with grants to help fund two of the non-profit group’s fundamental programs.

The WCSS Food Bank received $5,000, and The Support Network of Whistler (SNOW) received a $4,000 grant. The AFOW is the Title Sponsor for SNOW in 2010-’11.

This is the sixth straight year AFOW, a U.S.-based non-profit group comprised of Americans who own property here or regularly visit Whistler, has supported WCSS programs. It has granted $650,000 to community organizations since 2003.

“We continue to be impressed with the professionalism of WCSS as an organization and their continued focus on the basic needs of Whistler residents,” Rod Rohda, AFOW

In the past eight months the WCSS Food Bank served more than 820 individuals, including 153 children. SNOW is designed to enhance life skills and provide support to single-parent families and individuals interested in improving their life skills. Participants receive life coaching, attend informational sessions with financial planners and other professionals, and can purchase bulk foods at cost through the new Food Buying Club.
