A Whistler man died in a three-vehicle collision on Highway 99 south of Squamish this week.

Christopher Hauserman, 40, died after the 2000 Subaru Impreza in which he was traveling in the northbound lanes crossed over the centerline just north of Britannia Beach and was struck by a southbound 2000 Ford pickup on Thursday (Dec. 17) at around 6:10 p.m., Corp. Dave Ritchie of the Sea to Sky Regional Police Services’ Squamish branch said in a statement issued Friday (Dec. 18).

After the Ford and Subaru collided, a southbound Dodge pickup that was coming up from behind struck the Ford, police said. He drivers of the two southbound vehicles were taken to Squamish Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Hauserman died at the scene, police said.

Traffic was stopped for about an hour after the crash, then reopened to single-lane alternating traffic, Ritchie said.

It was raining at the time of the collision and traffic was heavy, police said. After interviewing witnesses, RCMP determined that the crash occurred as a result of the Subaru crossing the centerline. Police are attributing the crash to inattentiveness and/or fatigue on the part of the driver, Ritchie said. There was no indication that speed, alcohol or drugs were factors, he said.
