Whistler Home Hardware is now Whistler’s only source for Carhartt clothing.
With such a strong construction-related work force, Home Hardware has definitely hit the nail on the head. For 120 years, Carhartt has manufactured premium work wear known for exceptional durability, comfort and quality and is used by most of our area’s construction workers.
Jeans, work pants, shirts, sweats, shorts and T-shirts are among their products that feature premium and rugged fabrics that are known to stand up in the toughest of conditions. The clothing line had barely been unpacked and displayed when local workers began to pile into the store to pick up new gear.
Whistler Home Hardware is constantly adding new products and making changes, but this is one change that will make life a lot easier for workers. For more information you can visit Home Hardware at 1005 Alpha Lake Rd. or call them at (604) 932-1903.

Whistler is home to a new “environmentally friendly” tour.
There is something peaceful about watching horse-drawn carriages clip-clop past my office. Blackcomb Sleigh Rides has expanded from being primarily a winter sleigh tour operator to include horse-drawn carriage tours in the summer. Owners David and Suzanne Plante have a new, elegant Surrey Carriage for “uptown” rides. They also have added a fancy white vis-à-vis carriage for weddings or special occasions. Guests can now view the sights of Whistler from a carriage, an experience that definitely entices the senses. The eco-friendly tour allows its passengers to hear the birds singing and the water rushing down Fitzsimmons Creek while keeping their eyes for a chance at a glimpse of any wildlife. It is a great way to enjoy the beautiful landscape majestic mountains. They have also acquired a partnership with the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, offering special, affordable tour packages.
For more information you can visit their website www.blackcombsleighrides.com or call (604) 932-7631.

The highly anticipated Le Scandinave Spa is almost ready to receive its first guests. Engulfed by spruce and cedar, and etched into the mountain face at Lost Lake and Spruce Grove parks, Le Scandinave Spa Whistler takes a uniquely integrated approach in providing its guests with a spa experience of relaxation in the heart of nature.
For Le Scandinave Spa, preserving the panorama of mountain vistas and valleys is paramount. Just 1.5 kilometres from the Village, the Nordic-style, all-season spa will be an escape to relaxation. Evidenced at all levels of the 20,000-square-foot outdoor spa is a commitment to the environment. From providing re-useable bags and stainless steel water bottles in lieu of plastic, to outfitting staff with uniforms made of sustainable fibres, and the innovative use of green technologies, the spa strives for sustainability as a fundamental part of the overall experience.
Brent Murdoch, whose Whistler-based firm Murdoch and Co. Architecture (together with Whistler Construction) carried out the spa’s eco-conscious construction, says: “Le Scandinave Spa Whistler was designed as a unique landscape-derived activity. The entire design was guided by principles of sustainability to harmonize with its setting, and to minimize where possible its impact on the environment.”
This is no easy task for an outdoor spa consisting of six separate buildings over three acres of forested hillside. Green initiatives have been applied on-site in the areas of landscape, energy and environment, water and waste.

Debbie Evans has returned from an amazing trip in Tuscany. In July, she spent time at a Tuscan retreat with world-renowned interior designer Debbie Travis, host of the popular television series Debbie Travis’ The Painted House (which has aired in more than 80 countries around the world), Debbie Travis’ Facelift and From the Ground Up. She is also the author of eight bestselling books and an internationally syndicated newspaper column.

Upon her return, Evans was able to enjoy the June/July issue of Canadian Home Trends Magazine, which featured her work. More work from Evans’ Whistler Interior Design will be featured in the September/October issue also.
Another highlight of Evans’ spring/summer was the release of the new book, Spectacular Homes of Western Canada, which features the work of some of the top designers in Western Canada. The upscale coffee-table book displays two of WID’s design projects. Insight Photography has showcased a Whistler property on Blueberry Hill and a rustic log home in the book with fine photographs.
