World and Canadian adaptive snowboard champion Tyler Mosher is set to defend his international title this week at the second World Adaptive Snowboard Championships, scheduled to be held in New Zealand’s Cardrona Alpine Resort from Sunday (July 26) to Thursday (July 30).
The Whistlerite is set to join Rossland’s Ian Lockey and Mike Fisher of Ottawa to represent Canada on the international stage, ready to prove the quality of the Canuck program and make their mark on the World Snowboard Federation event.
The July 30 race will be structured as a slingshot snowboardcross event, held during the 2009 Adaptive Snow Sports Festival and National Championship.
“We are excited to welcome international snowboarders to ride and compete at this world championships event, as we work to have the event officially included in the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympics,” Festival Organizer Libby Blackley said in a statement.
Sea to Sky golfers swing for greens
Junior golfers will take to the links Monday to Wednesday (July 27 to 29) this week at courses throughout the corridor to determine the ultimate Sea to Sky champions. Playing to come out on top of their age groups in 54-hole gross stroke competition, boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 18 will drive the distance in Whistler, Pemberton and Squamish courses for the Sea to Sky Junior Golf Championship.
Big Sky Golf and Country Club is the venue for the first round on Monday at 2 p.m., followed by a stop at the Whistler Golf Club on Tuesday and the final round at the Squamish Valley course on Wednesday. After successfully reviving the event last year, organizers are encouraging golfers to get their registration in quickly as the field size is limited. For entry forms, write to apolo@shaw.ca or ask at a local course.
