‘Climate Smart’ training sessions set

The Government of B.C. and Whistler Centre for Sustainability (WCS) want to equip local businesses and organizations with the tools and knowledge to profitably reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. To that end, a series of Climate Smart training sessions is planned in Whistler, with the first session taking place on Sept. 16.

The sessions, which also take place on Oct. 7 and Nov. 10, respectively, are being presented through a partnership involving the WCS and Ecotrust Canada.

The government, through LiveSmart B.C., is also providing 20 scholarships for Climate Smart training, valued at $1,500 each, to help small- and medium-sized businesses reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, increase efficiency and save money.

The Climate Smart program is described as “comprehensive, business case-based training that takes enterprises through the process of creating an emissions inventory and developing reduction strategies with a focus on cost savings and brand lift. It is designed to provide local businesses with the tools to become more competitive in an era of carbon regulation and volatile energy prices. This is also a perfect time to get businesses demonstrating their commitment to reducing climate change impacts before Whistler hosts the 2010 Winter Games.”
