Greyhound Canada is looking to eliminate one of its eight daily bus runs between Whistler and the Lower Mainland.
The company has applied to B.C.’s Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) for the right to eliminate the daily Coquitlam-to-Whistler run from its schedule.
The Question’s attempts to reach Greyhound officials were not immediately returned, but the most likely reason for the proposed move is low ridership.
Under the current schedule, one daily bus leaves Coquitlam at 6 a.m. and does not stop in Vancouver, but picks up passengers in Squamish before heading to Whistler, arriving in Whistler at 8:30 a.m. The bus then continues to Pemberton, arriving at 9:25 p.m.
Going south, the bus departs from Whistler at 5 p.m., drops off and picks up passengers in Squamish, and arrives in Coquitlam at 7:30 p.m. The latter bus is popular with those who commute to and from Squamish.
Greyhound also recently changed the time of one of its late-morning runs from Vancouver. The bus now leaves Vancouver’s Pacific Central Station at 10 a.m., arriving in Whistler Village at 12:45 p.m. and Pemberton at 1:40 p.m. The departure time of one southbound Pemberton bus was also changed. It now departs from Pemberton at 2:30 p.m. and arrives in Whistler at 3:05 p.m.
Those wishing to comment on the proposed elimination of the Coquitlam bus route should do so on or before June 17 by writing to the B.C. Passenger Transportation Board, Box 9850 Stn Prov Govt, Victoria, BC V8W 9T5, by fax at (250) 953-3788, or by email at ptboard@gov.bc.ca. All submissions should reference application No. X71-09/Route S2.
