Germany's David Moller overcomes knee injury to claim luge event at Whistler

WHISTLER, B.C. - David Moller of Germany won the ninth men's title of his career at the World Cup luge event Saturday at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

Despite a torn ligament in his left knee, Moller posted a two-run time of one minute 33.919 seconds, with Italy's Armin Zoeggeler 0.019 seconds behind.

Zoggeler, the reigning Olympic champion is the World Cup overall title holder.

Germany's Felix Loch was third, 0.109 seconds back, but at one point clocked 153.93 km/h, the fastest speed ever recorded on the track that will host the event at the 2010 Olympics.

Calgary's Sam Edney was the top Canadian, finishing 12th in 1:34.803. Calgary's Jeff Christie and Ian Cockerline placed 13th and 21st, respectively. Brendan Hauptman of Calgary was 29th.
