Whistler – The schedule for the Squamish-Whistler commuter bus was changed this week to accommodate the upcoming increase in the frequency of construction-related highway closures that’s anticipated to kick in on Sept. 16.

The schedule changes, which took effect on Monday (Sept. 2), are planned to avoid the maximum highway closure times of Monday to Thursday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 a.m. that will be needed to accommodate highway construction between Squamish and Whistler.

The Squamish-Whistler service, which is being offered through a partnership of the District of Squamish, the Resort Municipality of Whistler and B.C. Transit, is designed to meet shift start and finish times in Whistler.

In addition to the new schedule for the Squamish-Whistler commuter service, discounted tickets for Greyhound service linking the two communities are now being offered for purchase at the two municipal halls. A limited number of a 20-ticket book of special Greyhound Faresavers tickets are being offered to commuters for $90 each, a savings of $1.40 per ticket compared to the regular Greyhound commuter fare of $5.90 per ride. The books will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the beginning of each month, officials said.
